I have never seen a beaver knife before is that an authentic design? and what is the shinny metal between the blade and handles on the patching knives. Is that lead/ Pewter? A nice lot though.

Girdi: That is one handsome dag (beaver tail knife? I had not heard of that term before but I don't know much about native stuff). Do you have the book "Early Knives and Beaded Sheaths of the American Frontier" by John Baldwin published by Early American Artistry - Trading Company? (self published) Shows plenty of dags there. It covers primarily frontier Indian use, and so don't buy it for a reference on Bowies, most of it seems 1840 or earlier, but he has tacked sheaths and knives from the reservation period also. Great source for beaded sheaths. By the way he has other books on war clubs, bows arrows and quivers, pipes and tobacco bags, and more - really a wonderful resource. Check out his web site at: www.earlyamericanartistry.com/At $75 and ordered from him this is not cheap, and the books seem a bit "thin" if you value your resources by the pound, but I think worth it. Many color plates. All of his work is extremely well done. I think you can get them a bit cheaper on Amazon. A wonderful resource if you are into native culture.
