A DVD out from Blockbuster is "The Big Trail" This is the first full length movie made by John Wayne. It was filmed on 70mm film in1929. All the equipment, guns, wagons, etc are 1870's period. Incredible panoramas, some scenes showing lowering wagons and animals down over cliffs, a river crossings, etc. There were 1000's of extras, 100's of wagons, 1000's of horses, cattle, etc. Even thou this was made only a couple after talkies started, this is a great film.

I see that the DVD is out for the original Monte Walsh with Lee Marvin. I have been waiting for years for this on DVD. After wanting it for years, I finally was able to buy the Lee Marvin version of "Monte Walsh."I think this movie is the best rendition of what cowboy life was actually, like in the 1880's. I also have Tom Selleck's version of "Monte Walsh" movie, which I also liked. As a native Montanan, who had a grandfather (1850-1950) that lived and cowboyed in this era, those are two of the best movies that portrayed cowboy life, I have ever seen, in my estimation. Bill
