has any one ever had any experience with 4d dies. i will be ordering me a 44- 2 1/4 bottle neck from c. sharps real soon. i was palnning on getting rcbs dies as that is all i ever use, but when i seen the price was well over 200 bucks i may reconsider. any input on this would be greatly appreciated, as well as any input on the 44-2 1/4 bottleneck calibre

Billy: I have 4D dies for my .45 2 7/8 that I got from Buffalo Arms - like you price was the deciding point. I can see no difference in quality between it and other die sets I own, both Lyman and RCBS. From my experience I would buy another set - now understand my experience is with a straight wall cartridge, yours a bottle neck. Further, I shoot things this side of 200 yards. A talented shooter (where the nuances of loading may matter) may have a different opinion.

Billy: No they are not carbide. I think carbide dies are pretty much for straight wall pistol cases - although I believe they do make carbide rifle dies, comments I heard have suggested you still have to lube the cases, which to me negates any advantage.
Considering the price of the cases we buy, I am pretty careful when I resize them.
