A great camp scene. Note: 1 Tongues hanging on field expedient rack. 2 Hides stretched hair up 3 LARGE sharpening stone 4 Hunter sitting on a camp stool? Can't tell, would he have used that table for reloading? 5 Empty crates laying around, camp a general mess 6 To me that hide has fairly short hair suggesting these were not winter hides, probably intended for leather and not robes Place and hunters must have had an unbearable smell

great camp picture. never thought about them carrying such a large sharpening wheel the hunter sitting, looks like a good set up for reloading. looks like a powder keg setting on the table beside him? or behind him? buffalo wool is the thickest from december to the end of january. early febuary hides usually are still wooly enough for a robes. don't look as if these guys are bundled up too much. doesn't appear to be any leaves on the brush in the back ground. so with the thin wool as suggested i would think early spring or maybe a fall camp

Great photo. It makes sense. A hide outfut would need wagons to transport tons of hides and support a mobile commercial operation. Imagine what a nightmare it would be to skin 100 buffalo carcasses with a belt knife. Using large commercial butchering blades would make more sense now that I am looking at the picture and thinking about it.
