Note the period wood cutting of a hide yard - note the press!!! See bones in the back ground. I can't recall the periodical this was done for, but it is of the period. I have never seen a reference for pressing hides in the field. They were simply folded in half an thrown on the wagon. Perhaps this was in a collecting point and done before transport by rail to the east. Image of collected hides in yard. Note horses and wagon, would that be a press that the fellow is standing on? Hides transported from the killing fields. Many references to freighters being hired to haul in hides with large wagons using oxen.
