This is an ASM (Colt) Pocket Pistol with a barrel assembly similar to that of a Baby Dragoon. Colt produced more pocket guns than anything and I have always hated the fact that they are almost entirely unrepresented in our hobby now. Mine is great for concealment and drawing from the cuff as they were documented. I have an original mould, 1850s era American Flask & Cap company flask and an Ely large capacity tin. It is a good little shooter and is more than handy for winning knife fights and talking footpads from having an interest in my pocketbook. -Dave Attachments:

Here's mine, it's an original that I picked up real cheap over here. The california belt is from Dell's Leather works and the holster by Jack Stewart. The mould is an original Colt.31 cal but the flask is from a second generation made by Dixon's of England. Boot. Attachments:

Excellent set Boot. I love the full-barreled pockets.

I have a cheap, poorly made 1849 Colt with rammer and 4" barrel I bought new in 1976. The bore wasn't even polished, it is filled with circular tooling marks. Typical junk of the period. I"ve always wanted to get a better-made replacement, but with a barrel longer than 4 inches. I believe the repros, long ago, were made with 5 and 6 inch barrels, or thereabouts. I know I've seen them, but can't recall the exact barrel length. The longer barrel, in .31 caliber, would make a good rabbit and plinking gun. Anyone seen a quality repro with 5" or longer barrel for sale? I"ve searched various sites on the net and have never seen one. Apparently, those that have them are hanging onto them.

I know this is an old post. However, we need to band together and bring up the post count... This forum is too neat and with so much potential, to let it die... I haven't seen a Colt 1849 pocket pistol with a barrel longer than four inches. When I buy one, soon I hope, it will have to have the model with the loading lever. I'll probably have to buy a Uberti, the're nice pistols if you can't find a Colt. I don't see many Colt pistols for sale in Southern California. Bill

A few months ago, I bought a reproduction 1849 Colt with 5" barrel off Gunbroker. Seller described it as in good shape. Well, "good" is a relative term. It arrived and was a 1970s piece of junk. It wouldn't align the cylinder when cocked. I stripped it and learned it no longer had a trigger spring! Bore was rough, hardly polished at all. Same for chambers. The photos were not a good indicator of actual condition. The seller never mentioned its inability to be cocked. I returned it to the seller and got my money back. I paid dearly for it, thinking it was in much better shape than described, and was rightly disappointed. The gunshop that sold it didn't return shipping costs, however. I'm still looking for a 5" barreled 1849 Colt. I'd take a 6" if found. I handled a 5" years ago and it had the perfect balance. I wish Uberti would offer the 1849 with 5" barrel. It would still be a good carry gun, but the balance would be better.

Uberti and Cimmaron (made by Uberti) make an 1862 police which was made on the Colt pocket pistol frame. They rebated the frame and added a belt to the cylinder and made it into a five shot .36 caliber pistol. I think they have barrels out to 5 inches, or maybe six inches. It's the same gun, just in .36 caliber instead of .31... Bill

I found a new Uberti reproduction, of the 1849 Colt pocket pistol for sale, and it will be here this next week. This is the for inch barrel version, which I have been told is the only way Uberti makes them now.
I'll keep my fingers crossed until it gets here and I have a chance to look it over.
Last week I was able to find, and buy, a new Uberti/Cimmaron 1862 pocket Navy. This is a five shot, 36 caliber pistol, with a 5 1/2 inch barrel.
This pistol is in gem like condition. I wish I had another.
If I see a pocket police with a 5 1/2 inch or longer barrel I will buy it too.
