Regarding avatar: I was recently speaking to the good Mr Hunt about this very subject and I tried his advice, here it is:
Upload your photo from PhotoBucket. I tried for a long time to upload from Village Photos where I keep a number of photos but no joy. So I started a PhotoBucket account, uploaded the avatar picture there, copied and pasted the avatar per the profile modification directions, and "Bob's your uncle" - it worked on the 1st try.

as brass said get a photo bucket account its free.
you will need to copy the img code from photo bucket and then paste it here
