Greetings, Gents. I'm Hangtown Frye, presently living in Western Washington State. I've been shooting black powder since I was around 11 or 12, when my Dad got me a cap-and-ball brass-framed Navy, and I've been hooked ever since, better than 40 years now. I've done Civil War, Rev War, Mountain Man and Cowboy reenacting for as much of that time as possible, though I also spend a fair amount of time doing Elizabethan military (with matchlocks, wheellocks and early flintlocks) and jousting, too. ;D I live on a small spread with my chickens and horses, so I can do a little bit of shooting occasionally (mostly at coyotes after my chickens!)
I grew up in Northern California (my G-G-Grandfather enlisted in the 5th California Vol. Infantry in Placerville, CA in 1861), so the family had been there a while, but things got a bit to weird for me, so north I went. Back when, I could wander the Sierra packing my Colt SAA with only a note from my Dad! How things have changed for the worse...
Anyway, I look forward to some lively discussions here. I found the board by chasing the link left by Buckskin Billy on the CAS City website, and thought you fellows have a bit more going in the way of historical knowledge than the average poster over there, so here I am. I hope to enjoy this site!
Cheers!

Welcome HTF - nice to have you here.
In addition to old west era I'm glad you like the old school stuff too. So do I, I'm putting the finishing touches on a Morgan era privateer/buccaneer (landsman) impression and getting ready for the 1668 Searle's raid in St Agustin, Florida event in March. Should be a hoot. The older era stuff is definitely cool.
Once again, welcome.

Thank you, Brass, for the kind welcome. I attended St. Marie's Citty Militia Muster in Maryland some years ago and met some of the folks from St. Augustine, and they're fine people indeed. I had a great time with them! They may remember the Spaniards who joined them on that occasion, after we did an exhibition in New Mexico portraying Don Juan de OƱate's colonizing expedition of 1598. (They did buffalo hunting too, btw, the original Ciboleros!)
I'm afraid I'm a sucker for almost any historical period with firearms in it, but at least for the moment I've narrowed it down to the last half of the 16th Century, and the last half of the 19th Century... though I've got people trying to pull me into other centuries too! Too little time to do too many periods. At least do them well!
Cheers!
