Well, there ought to be a board for a commercial hide hunter. There has to be more than three of us out there, doesn't there?

Well now we've gone and done it, the English have found the herd. Small world connected by the air we breath, eh Malpaso? This will save me an email telling you about the place.

Well, thanks for the site Buckskin Billy - the most recent arrivals know each other from the UK shooters board - of all places - so, who is Buckskin Billy?
I am from Michigan, Dave is from CA I believe, Malpaso, the Judge and others are from the old country.
My interest is the colonial hunter of the Ohio Valley, Western fur trade, commercial buffalo hunter 1872 - 1874, and American cowboy 1870 - 1890. But, I would enjoy a board dedicated to the buffalo runner.
My partner and I do the best we can to reproduce a hide hunters camp. But Billy, you should know that they do a really bang up job of it in the UK - the herd is thin over there but they do a really good job despite that.

howdy james, well to tell yall a little about myself. i'm from louisiana been here my whole life. i grew up hunting and fishing. i never outgrew playing cowboys and indians. when i got too big for cap guns i got me a 1851 navy cap and ball revolver when i was 13 and been hooked on black powder ever since. i participated in civil war re-enacting for awhile then got into the western fur trade era. i learned to brain tanned and i have brain tanned every thing from buffalo, elks, and enough whitetail hides to cover a 3rd world country. as well as many fur bearing critters and a few scaley critters as well. i participate in cowboy action shooting in the frontiermans class. me and my pard patriot go trapping together in period clothing and do our best to trap as a mountaineer of the fur trade would have. i enjoy hunting with my black powder arms. i got a sharps 45-70 business rifle the first of the year and took my first deer with it this year. this is my first deer to take with a black powder cartridge gun, but i have taken many with my plains rifle. i hope we all get to know each other a little better and learn more about hunting the way it was done in the good old days, with lead and black powder

Louisiana!?! Wow, I've seen you guys in Swamp People on the history channel. ;D Man, water moccasins and gaters! No, thanks - I'd rather get trampled by the herd and wolf bit than end my life with reptiles!!!!! In Michigan we only have two threatening species, bears and the entire population of Detroit. It is wise to go armed in both events.

i live in the north eastern part of louisiana, i'm about 300 miles north of new orleans. down south of us is where all that swamp land and gator hunting goes on. it is real hilly up in my neck of the woods, but it aint un heard of to see a gator while fishing
